Donuts

  • 1 pint warm, sweet milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup Crisco© (warm)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 package yeast, dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water

Add yeast mixture to milk before adding flour. Mix all this. Let rise until double in size, about 2 hours. Then roll out on a floured board and cut.

Place donuts on waxed paper and let rise 1 hour. Then fry in deep hot fat. Turn in sugar icing while hot.

Icing:

  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Karo syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Dash salt
  • Enough water to make a fairly thin icing
