Chocolate Fudge Square Cake

Mix and set aside:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour

In saucepan mix and bring to boil:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 4 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1 cup water

Add hot mixture to flour/sugar mixture. Stir until blended well. Beat two eggs and add to above mixture. Dissolve 1 teaspoon soda and pinch of salt in 1/2 cup buttermilk; add 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring. Add to above mixture.

Bake in oblong cake pan (greased and floured) at 350° for 30 minutes.

Ice while hot, in pan.

Icing:

Melt 1 stick oleo. Mix in 4 tablespoons cocoa and 6 tablespoons milk. Blend in 1 box powdered sugar (sifted), 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup chopped pecans. Pour over hot cake.
