Crispy Corn Dog

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup corn meal
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 Tbsp melted shortening
  • 2 wieners (per person)
  • Oil for frying

Combine flour, corn meal, sugar, mustard, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, egg, and shortening. Mix until smooth. pour into a tall slender glass. Put a toothpick in the wiener. Dip wieners, one at a time, in corn meal batter. Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towel.
