- 3 cups sifted plain flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1 package yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup shortening
Sift flour and salt together. Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Work shortening and the liquid into the flour. Turn the dough into a lightly greased bowl. Let rise until double.
Turn out on board and knead a few rounds. Roll out and cut into rolls. Fold over. Butter center and tops. Let rise again.
Bake at 400° – 450°. Do not overbake. These rolls can be warmed over for another meal.
