Old-Style Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 cup sifted flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • About 1 cup buttermilk

Heat oven to 475°. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and soda. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse. Stir in buttermilk with a fork until soft dough is formed. Knead and roll out on lightly floured board. Cut with cutter. Bake about 10 minutes.
