- 2 cup water
- 2 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 1 package yeast
- 6 cups flour
- 2 1/2 Tbsp, melted shortening
Combine sugar, salt, and yeast in large bowl. Stir in 2 cups very warm water. Mix in 3 cups flour. Stir in shortening. Add remaining 3 cups flour. Mix well. Turn in greased bowl. Let rise in warm place until doubled. Turn out onto lightly floured board. Knead until smooth. Shape into 2 loaves and place in 2 greased 10x5x3 inch pans. Cover with damp cloth; let rise until doubled. Brush with melted butter, if desired.
Bake at 375° until done, about 30 minutes.
