  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cup self-rising flour
  • Pinch of salt

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Heat shortening in milk until shortening is melted. Add sugar; beat in egg and yeast mixture. Add flour; knead lightly.

Pinch off desired number of rolls and place in a greased pan. Allow rise until double in bulk in a warm place.

Bake at 400° until brown.

Makes 16 rolls or 2 loaves.
