Old Fashion Caramel Cake

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup Crisco®
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 8 eggs
  • 3 cup flour (cake flour)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp lemon extract
  • 3 tsp baking powder


  • 1 can Pet milk
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract

Cream together the butter. Crisco® and sugar. Add eggs one at a time leaving 3 egg whites for later use and beat well. Alternate flour, baking powder and buttermilk. Beat well after each addition. Add flavoring. Set aside. Beat the three egg white until stiff; fold in case batter.

Bake in greased square floured pan for 30 minutes at 325° or until done.

Frosting: Mix together 1 large can Pet milk, 2 cups sugar, 1 stick butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and lemon extract and stir until thickened.

Pour over cake.
