Fig Cake

Farmerville First Baptist Church Sesquicentennial Cookbook 1847-1997

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup fig preserves
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Sift together flour, salt, soda and sugar. Add in cooking oil (beat well). Add eggs; then gradually add buttermilk; add preserves nuts, and vanilla. Pour into greased pan (I use 13x9x2 5/8 inch pan). Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. While hot, pour following sauce over cake in pan.

SAUCE:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp soda

Mix ingredients and boil for 3 minutes.
