Althia’s Jam Cake

Farmerville First Baptist Church Sesquicentennial Cookbook 1847-1997

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 cup blackberry jam
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 level tsp soda

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs (one at a time) and beat well; then ad jam. Sift flour twice, add spices to flour and sift again. Add soda to buttermilk and add alternately with the flour.

FILLING:

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 or 4 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk (add egg yolk before all milk)

Cook until thick. Add 1 tablespoon butter. After it cooks some, add 1 cup chopped nuts.
