Molasses Cookies

Farmerville First Baptist Church Sesquicentennial Cookbook 1847-1997

  • 1 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground ginger

In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in molasses and eggs. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to cream mixture. Chill for 1 hour or until firm. Shape into 1 inch balls; place on greased (or sprayed) baking sheets. Press flat with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until just lightly browned. Remove with spatula and cool on wire rack.

Makes about 12 dozen.
