Nellie Brasher
Farmerville First Baptist Church Sesquicentennial Cookbook 1847-1997

  • 3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup white Karo® syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2/3 cup Pet® milk
  • 2 or 2 1/2 cup raw peanuts
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp vanilla
  • 2 drops red food coloring

Mix sugar, Karo®, milk, and water in a heavy saucepan; when it begins to boil, add peanuts and red food coloring. Cook, stirring until it forms a very hard stage (260 degrees on candy thermometer); take off fire.

Add butter, salt, and vanilla. Stir until the butter is mixed well with candy. Stir a little longer, then pour on large cookie sheet greased with butter. Let cool and break into pieces.
