Buttermilk Pound Cake

  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 3/4 cup sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating until mixture is light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour and soda, add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla.

Pour batter into a greased and floured 10″ tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until tested with toothpick comes out clean. Sometimes I put a teaspoon of lemon extract with a teaspoon of vanilla.
