Caramel Frosting

  • 2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup sweet milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Mix the two sugars, egg, butter, and milk in a saucepan and cook until it reaches the soft ball stage. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Add vanilla. Beat until right consistency to spread. If it gets too thick , add a little cream or milk, just a tiny bit will make it soft. May add chopped nuts if you want to. This is also makes a good caramel candy, just cook a little longer for candy. The best and easiest I have ever tried.

Note: Sis doesn’t know I am putting this in. This is a recipe just as she sent to me about 45 years ago, not too long after Robert and I were married. She also sent along the cake, a yellow cake with this frosting. I’ve never forgotten how good it was. Lovie
