Drop Cookies
Christmas Cookies

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup raisins, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Combine shortening, sugar, and spices, beating well. Add eggs and milk; beat until well blended.

Sift together flour, soda, and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Add to creamed mixture, stirring well. Fold in raisins and pecans.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets; flatten each cookie slightly, using the back of a spoon. Bake at 350° for 12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool. Store in airtight containers.

Yield: 5 dozen.
