Nutmeg Refrigerator Cookies

Rolled and Sliced Cookies
Christmas Cookies

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg; beat well. Stirin vanilla.

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a medium mixing bowl. Add to creamed mixture; mix well. (Dough will be stiff.) Chill slightly.

Shape dough into 2 rolls, 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper; chill 1 hour or until firm. Remove waxed paper, and cut into 1/8 inch slices. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Store in airtight containers.

Yield: 6 dozen.
