Rolled and Sliced Cookies
Christmas Cookies
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and syrup, beating until well blended. Combine four. soda, and spices. Add to creamed mixture; mix well. Stir in orange rind.
Shape dough into 2 rolls, 1 inch in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper; chill overnight. Remove waxed paper, and cut into 1/8 inch slices. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400° for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove to wire racks.
Yield: about 8 dozen.
