Looking at Cooking and Garden Jobs with Mildred Swift

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup raisins (seedless)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon soda

Mix, place in greased cans. Cover and steam about 4 hours. Dry out in oven about 30 minutes, with tops off. I use baking powder cans for this bread.
