Lilla Turnage
Farmerville First Baptist Church Sesquicentennial Cookbook 1847-1997
- 2 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup Karo® syrup
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
In a heavy boiler add sugar and boiling water. Stir and add Karo®. Place over flame and bring to a good boil. Pour 1/2 cup of this mixture over well beaten egg whites. Continue beating while remainder of syrup cooks until it forms a hard, but not brittle, ball dropped in cold water. Pour the syrup over the egg whites and continue beating until it begins to loose its gloss. Add nuts and vanilla. Pour into well buttered pan and cool before cutting.
